The first modern day Olympics were held in 1896 and weightlifting was included as an official sport. Weightlifting did not appear in the 1900 Games, but returned in 1904, and has been a regular event since 1920. In 1932, three lifts were standard: the press (eliminated in 1972), the snatch, and the clean & jerk. In 1932, there were five weight classes. Today there are eight weight classes for men and seven weight classes for women.

The CA training program is intended for the individual wishing to significantly improve functional strength and power—and the Olympic lifts specifically—without compromising general fitness too greatly. This individual has a greater affinity for strength and Olympic weightlifting than any other element of fitness, or wants to spend a period of time focusing on strength development or Olympic weightlifting improvement before returning to a more general approach to fitness.
Mike’s Gym is a Regional Training Center for USA Weightlifting, which is the governing body of the sport—Olympic style Weightlifting, as well as a CrossFit gym affiliate where the CrossFit philosophy is highly adhered to. Olympic Weightlifting is the only weightlifting sport participated in the Olympic Games and the CrossFit philosophy strongly adheres to the insertion of the Olympic lifts in its daily programing.

We use organic functional movements performed at high intensity to simulate the demands placed on an athlete during a football game. Football is a game of seconds and inches. CrossFit Football knows the demands placed on players during the game and the distances they will have to travel. With this in mind, we can replicate the stresses and situations a player will face on the field.
Number one rule: Don’t cheat the movement! Don’t cheat to get a faster time, don’t cheat to lift a heavier weight! We have put together the groups; Big Dawgs, Pack, Puppies for a reason. The key to CrossFit is functional movements, performed on a variable set rep pattern with intensity. If the workout of the day involves 21 front squats do not substitute leg extensions and hamstring curls and say you did CrossFit. You will have missed the point behind functional movement. Do not take a workout and do it every other day for a month. You will have missed the point of Variance.
