Our Gym

A strong community is bonded through a hard working spirit, void of gossip and judgement.

Our coaches are experts, ensuring that you receive quality leadership and education.

We don’t believe in giving up when there’s an obstacle; don’t let the small things get in the way of your big goals.

Our policies and core values ensure that your experience yields commitment and results.

Do the right thing regardless of who's around, who might be watching, or how hard that situation may be.

How We are Different

CrossFit is an affiliation, not a franchise, this means that, while we all have similar belief in CrossFit principles, we are all independently operated and can create our own unique workout environment and gym culture. After visiting over 100 CrossFit gyms, we developed our 5 core values, 5-star On Ramp program, class structure, to get the most out of your CrossFit experience.

Small Group Classes

Some CrossFit gyms encourage or are forced into large group sizes. Since 2010, our members sign into classes, not only to help us keep class sizes small, but helps you stay committed to your workouts. You receive enough individualized instruction from the coach with enough classmates to make it fun.

Our getting-started program, On Ramp

On Ramp is the most important first step in getting started with CrossFit because we are teaching movement mechanics for safety and longevity. Most gyms do a few private training sessions, then set you off. Some gyms don’t have On Ramp and immediately jump into CrossFit classes. We’ve tried it all, and narrowed down the best way for you to safely learn CrossFit, maintain longevity, and still get the strength and conditioning results you desire. With us, you must crawl before you can walk and walk before you can run. No one will teach you more effectively than we do.

Class Structure

We’ve designed our class structure to be coach-led from start to finish. We begin with a warm-up, then improve your flexibility/mobility, review the movements workout and ensure you’re properly scaled before the workout starts.

Workout Programming

CrossFit is known for high intensity and constantly varied workouts, but constantly varied should not be interpreted as constantly random. CrossFit also shouldn’t be identified solely on intensity. Shaun has over 8 years of research in sports performance programming; there is a science to our programming in which your workouts are hand picked and vary among short and intense, long and enduring, heavy loads with few reps, and light loads with many reps. Your CrossFit gym should know why you’re doing that workout on that particular day.

Expert Coaching

CrossFit isn’t our side job, it is our only passion. With nearly 20 years of combined experience, Shaun and Jenna are CrossFit Level 2 Trainer (CF-L2), & hold a USW Sports Performance Coach Level 1 certification. We continue our education via seminars from experts in gymnastics, mobility, endurance, power lifting, nutrition and more! All ability levels are accommodated and modified to ensure you’re scaled properly, yielding the best results from our program.

One of the greatest reasons why Hoosier CrossFit is different is because of our supportive community inside and outside of the gym. Every month, we host unique holiday workouts, outside-of-the-gym get togethers, fundraiser events (we’ve donated well over $20,000 to local charities), and competitive CrossFit events to help develop your personal goals, build relationships, and feel valued at HCF.

It’s no wonder why we were named Small Business of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce.

Community Involvement

You’ll hear from our members that Hoosier Crossfit is more thanjust a gym. As a small staff of three, you can see how much hard work, passion, and dedication we put into our fitness, our members, and our community.

We host 3-4 competitions annually, and each event brings in 250-500 athletes and spectators to Bloomington. Competitions test an athletes level of skill, cardio, and strength. Hotels, Restaurants and other local attractions benefit from our events!

We are always offering something for our members! We compete in friendly competitive events where all ages and abilities are comfortable to participate. Not all events are competitive, though. From the 5-week CrossFit open, to the OakenBucket WOD against CrossFit west Lafayette to our Tacky Sweater Christmas WOD and gift exchange to celebrating HCF anniversaries with a keg of beer to picnics at the park, you are sure to make new friends.

One of CrossFit’s mottos is “Learn and Play New Sports.” Whether it’s doing pullups on a moving vehicle, to practicing hand eye coordination in our Softball League, to competing against sports-specific rowing athletes, we want to make our mark! Our team holds the title for the Indy Indoor Rowing champions, Best Vehicle in the 4th of July Parade.

We have so many connections with the Bloomington community that we just can’t share all of them. As “Community” is one of our core values, it wouldn’t be right if we didn’t try to make an impact with local businesses, organizations, and families outside of the gym, too. We have donated hours of coaching to Big Brothers Big Sisters, Girl’s Inc., local PE programs, seminars at IU, and giveaways for free classes to local charities.
