Olympic Lifting

Olympic weightlifting, or weightlifting, is a sport in which participants attempt a maximum weight single lift of a barbell loaded with weight plates. The two lifts competed are the clean and jerk and the snatch. The compound word “weightlifting” is also often used to refer to weight training.

In comparison with other strength sports which tests limit strength (with or without lifting aids), olympic weightlifting tests ballistic limits (explosive strength) with smaller weights, such that the lifts must be executed faster and with more mobility, because of a greater range of motion during the lifts. We use these lifts and their components to train for explosive and functional strength.

Getting Started

The Hoosier CrossFit Barbell Club offers 60-minute sessions led by a Certified USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach. Sessions focus on mastering everything from basic barbell movements to detailed progressions through the more complex Olympic lifts. The Barbell Club is open to everyone ranging from hardcore Olympic lifters to those who have just been introduced to the barbell.

We meet on Saturdays at 10am and Wednesdays at 7:15pm.  Classes are $15 for a drop in class or $40 for a 4 class pass. You do not need to be a member of Hoosier CrossFit to join!

Special Olympic Weightlifting Event with Wil Fleming

Do you want to start focusing on your Oly Lifts to reach new records?

 Hoosier CrossFit is proud to announce that Coach Wil Fleming (Co-owner of Force Fitness and Junior National Olympic Lifting Champion) will be conducting in-house Olympic Lifting classes! You will meet 2x per week for 8 weeks  covering the fundamental breakdowns and full lifts of the Snatch, Clean & Jerk.

Class Start Date: September 2
Class End Date: October 23

Dates: Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:15pm-6:15pm

Cost: $199 for 2x/week for 8 weeks (this averages around $12 per class!)

Then, on Saturday, October 25, we will follow up with your success by hosting a “fun meet.” We will coordinate a mock up of what it’s like to participate in an Olympic Lifting meet!  Those who participate in Wil’s classes are free, and non-participants will be a small fee.

Shaun will still also be running Saturday morning classes at 10 a.m. These will be make-up classes so if you can’t make one of Wil’s sessions, Shaun will review what you missed.  These Saturday sessions are free if you’re enrolled in Wil’s Class, or 1 for $15 or  4 for $40.
