HCF In House Throwndown and Fundraiser @ Hoosier CrossFit

IN-HOUSE THROWDOWN SCHEDULE RELEASED
by HCF February 21, 2015.

All HCF members are welcomed to participate in a 3-WOD battle for bragging rights and awesome fun! We will be having two divisions, RX and Scaled, so that everyone can modify the movements if need be. The top three winners in each division will reach the podium!

Even if you are not registered to compete, come on by and support your fellow athletes. This will be an awesome community event! Get ready to challenge yourself and see what competition is all about! Below is the rough schedule for the day. Specific heat times and assignments will be released closer to the event.

Cost: $5 minimum donation to help Vince & Carol.

Rough timeline:
Athlete Check-In and warmup: 9:00am-9:30am
WOD 1 Released/Standards: 9:35am-9:50am
WOD 1: 10:00am-10:55am
WOD 2 Released/Standards: 11:00am-11:15am
WOD 2: 11:25am-12:25pm.
WOD 3 released/standards: 12:35pm-12:50pm.
WOD 3: 1:00pm-2:00pm
Awards: 2:15pm-2:20pm.
Finish day between 230-3pm.

On top of a fun filled day participating with your fellow HCF members, we are also about giving back to our community. Paul Williams has been a long time member of HCF and needs our help for a family member; Read below:

On Friday, June 6, 2014, Vince returned home from work. He received a text message from his neighbor Judy stating that another elderly neighbor, Don, had been prowling around Vince and Carol’s house earlier that afternoon. About 15 minutes after Vince arrived at home, Don rang the doorbell at the backdoor of Vince and Carol’s house, this doorbell was installed after Don’s wife (Kate) died. They did this so they would always know if Don was at the door, in case he needed anything.

Vince answered the door and greeted Don. After ranting incoherently for a few seconds, Don shot Vince in the stomach with a .22 caliber pistol.

Vince had the presence of mind to barricade himself in his office and call 911 to report his injuries and the person who caused them. Vince’s quick thinking saved his life.

Once the ambulance arrived, Vince was rushed to Bloomington Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to remove a damaged portion of his colon. He was then airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Vince was immediately put into an induced coma for 14 days and required a respirator to breathe. While at Methodist Hospital, Vince’s pancreas, liver, colon, and intestines required surgery and several “clean-outs” to repair the extensive damage caused by the .22 caliber bullet. Every Friday night beginning at 6pm, join TEAM HCF in completing the 2015 Open WODs!

HCF already has a great community of members, but many of us don’t get to see each other on a daily basis due to the different times we walk through the door.

We will be getting teams of cross fitters (of all skill levels) together to compete in a fun, no-pressure setting to support each other as we test ourselves in this year’s open.

Here’s the general idea:
DRAFT:
Team captains will be chosen from the gym at large based on their influence, positivity and energy levels in classes and at events. These captains will then “draft” their teams by pulling names of those members who have signed up for the open, and want to participate, in a rotating draw and then notify their team members. Teams will be drawn the Thursday before the Open begins and listed immediately afterwards.

THE TEAMS:
Each captain will come up with a team name. Originality and creativity is encouraged and always appreciated (e.g. Kippin it Real, Can’t Snatch This, etc.).

POINTS:
+2 Points – Completing your workout with the other team participants at scheduled “Open Throwdown” event (we generally do the workouts once a week in large group w/ makeups on Sundays): Every member of a team that completes an Open workout at Hoosier Crossfit during the designated time (Friday night). Maximum two points per athlete per workout.

+1 Point – Completion of an Open workout during a non-designated time (make-up WOD) or a make-up WOD at another affiliate if you’re traveling.

+1 Point – Top 3 Male/ Top 3 Female: the top three male scores AND the top three female scores for Hoosier Crossfit will earn their team one extra point per athlete per workout.

+5 Points (team) – Spirit: The team with the most noise, pride, and PRESENCE each week will receive 5 bonus points.

+2 Points (weekly bonus) – Spirit of the Open. Voted on and based on individual effort; Not the size of the beast in the fight, but rather: the size of the fight in the beast.

At the end of the day this is supposed to be a FUN community event for ALL Hoosier Crossfit members! Any athlete of ANY skill level is encouraged to sign up for the Open, get to know your fellow crossfitters and have a good time with a great group of people.

Sometimes you’re friends need a little push! Invite them to do a workout with you! This event isn’t only for members of our gym, though! If Someone is out there who wants to try our program, come risk free! We’re not charging for this FREE class!

Join us for a HUGE after party with all your HCF friends, family and fans on Friday April 3 at 6pm. (One week after the last open workout).

We will be giving a breakdown of the open points from each week as well as the overall team winner and standouts from the 5 weeks that 86 of our members participated in!

We are currently working on details for the space, but save the date and time and share with your fellow peeps!
